LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sep 16, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE)

Stock Yards Bank & Trust has reached a milestone in its long local history. Tomorrow, on September 17, the Bank will be exactly 100 years old.

For a century, Stock Yards Bank & Trust has thrived as a premier community bank since it was founded in 1904 to serve the livestock industry in Louisville. After 85 years with a single location, the bank has since grown beyond the city's borders, evolving into a full service bank with 24 locations in Kentucky and Indiana - expanding into a mid-size financial services company. For example, in addition to its five branches in Southern Indiana, the Bank recently exported its unique blend of "hometown banking and world-class financial services" to the Indianapolis area with a new Market Square office in downtown Indianapolis.

"As the Bank continues to grow, one thing has not changed: The focus we place on providing close personal attention to our clients," stated David H. Brooks, Chairman and CEO of Stock Yards Bank. "This unwavering commitment is the bedrock upon which this bank was founded. That's something that will never change at Stock Yards - you'll get the same high level of attention from Middletown, Kentucky, to New Albany, Indiana."

The Bank's commitment to service isn't the only measure of success. The Bank continues to excel in its earnings performance. In August, S.Y. Bancorp, the Bank's parent company, was ranked 13 in the top 100 publicly traded mid-tier banks by US Banker magazine, up three positions from last year's ranking of 16. This national ranking was based on the three-year average return on earnings for banks and thrifts with assets between $1 billion and $5.5 billion. The Company's three-year average return on earnings was 19.7%, placing well above its competitors in this market. "Earnings and performance has certainly been a plus for our shareholders," added David Heintzman, President of Stock Yards Bank. "But it has also given us the ability to build a strong, experienced and skilled management team and a talented staff in all areas of the bank, so we can continue to grow in the future and capitalize on our independence. That's worth celebrating!"

S.Y. Bancorp, Inc. was incorporated in 1988 as a bank holding company in Louisville, Kentucky and is the parent company of Stock Yards Bank & Trust Company. S.Y. Bancorp trades on the American Stock Exchange under the symbol SYI.
